Nurofen Junior Jarðarber (Ibuprofen)

Ibuprofen acts on inflammatory pathways to provide symptomatic relief in several paediatric conditions.

• Fever: helps lower elevated body temperature in children.
• Mild to moderate pain: eases discomfort from toothaches, sore throats, or minor injuries.
• Inflammatory conditions: reduces swelling and pain associated with juvenile arthritis or minor sprains.

• Ibuprofen inhibits cyclo‑oxygenase (COX‑1 and COX‑2) enzymes, decreasing the synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate inflammation, pain and fever. This reduction in prostaglandin levels leads to diminished peripheral sensitisation and central fever signalling.

Adverse reactions may occur with ibuprofen use, ranging from mild to serious.

Common Side Effects

• Stomach upset: nausea, dyspepsia or mild abdominal discomfort.
• Headache: transient headache occurring after dosing.
• Diarrhoea: loose stools without blood.
• Rash: mild skin redness or itching.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Gastrointestinal bleeding: black or tarry stools, vomiting blood.
• Allergic reaction: hives, swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing.
• Liver injury: jaundice, dark urine, elevated liver enzymes.
• Kidney impairment: reduced urine output, swelling of ankles.
