Ibuprofen is a non‑selective NSAID that reduces pain, fever and inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.

• Fever reduction: Lowers elevated body temperature associated with viral or bacterial infections.

• Ibuprofen exerts its effect by non‑selectively inhibiting cyclooxygenase‑1 (COX‑1) and cyclooxygenase‑2 (COX‑2) enzymes, which blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. The resulting decrease in prostaglandin synthesis reduces peripheral sensitisation of nociceptors, lowers the hypothalamic set‑point for temperature, and diminishes inflammatory exudate formation.
