Ibuprofen is an NSAID that alleviates symptoms across several common painful or inflammatory conditions.

• Pain: Provides relief from mild to moderate nociceptive pain such as headache, dental or musculoskeletal discomfort.
• Fever: Lowers elevated body temperature associated with infectious or inflammatory processes.
• Inflammation: Decreases swelling and stiffness in conditions like sprains or soft‑tissue injuries.
• Arthritis: Improves joint mobility and reduces pain in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

• Ibuprofen exerts its effect by non‑selectively inhibiting cyclooxygenase‑1 (COX‑1) and cyclooxygenase‑2 (COX‑2) enzymes, which blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. The reduction in prostaglandin synthesis diminishes peripheral sensitisation of nociceptors, lowers the hypothalamic set‑point for temperature, and limits inflammatory exudate formation, thereby producing analgesic, antipyretic and anti‑inflammatory actions.
