Icatibant acts on the bradykinin pathway to treat hereditary angioedema and related acute swelling disorders.

• Icatibant selectively antagonizes the bradykinin B2 receptor on endothelial cells. By blocking this receptor, it prevents bradykinin‑induced vasodilation and increased vascular permeability, which are responsible for the swelling seen in hereditary angioedema. The drug’s high affinity for the B2 receptor ensures rapid onset of action after subcutaneous administration, and its specificity limits effects on other kinins.
