Ijzerhydroxide Sacharose Complex Teva (Iron Sucrose)

Ijzerhydroxide Sacharose Complex (iron sucrose) is used to correct iron deficiency in conditions where oral iron is ineffective or not tolerated.

• Iron deficiency anemia: restores hemoglobin and replenishes depleted iron stores.
• Anemia of chronic kidney disease: supports erythropoiesis in patients receiving dialysis or renal replacement therapy.
• Anemia in patients undergoing major surgery: improves pre‑operative iron status to reduce transfusion requirements.

• Iron sucrose delivers bioavailable iron directly into the bloodstream, where it is taken up by reticuloendothelial cells and incorporated into ferritin. The released iron is then transferred to transferrin, which transports it to the bone marrow for incorporation into hemoglobin, thereby increasing red blood cell production and correcting anemia.

Iron sucrose may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and transient.

Common Side Effects

• Nausea: mild to moderate stomach upset after infusion.
• Headache: transient headache during or after administration.
• Injection site pain: local discomfort or erythema at the infusion site.
