Ketoconazole acts on dermatophyte and yeast infections of the skin, reducing fungal proliferation and associated inflammation.

• Tinea pedis: reduces foot fungal colonisation and improves skin comfort.
• Seborrheic dermatitis: controls Malassezia overgrowth and diminishes flaking.
• Other superficial fungal skin infections: provides broad‑spectrum antifungal activity on the skin.

• Ketoconazole inhibits the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14α‑demethylase, a key step in ergosterol synthesis. By blocking ergosterol production, the drug disrupts the integrity of the fungal cell membrane, leading to increased permeability and ultimately cell death, thereby reducing the fungal burden on the skin.

Ketoconazole topical preparations may cause local reactions.
