Ilmago (Tamsulosin Hydrochloride, Dutasteride)

Ilmago combines two agents that act on the lower urinary tract and prostate tissue to manage benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

• Benign prostatic hyperplasia: reduces prostate volume and improves urine flow.
• Lower urinary tract symptoms associated with BPH: alleviates urgency, frequency and nocturia.
• Chronic urinary retention secondary to BPH: facilitates bladder emptying and reduces the need for catheterisation.

• Tamsulosin selectively blocks alpha‑1A receptors in prostatic smooth muscle, decreasing muscle tone and enhancing urine flow. Dutasteride inhibits both type I and type II 5‑alpha‑reductase enzymes, lowering dihydrotestosterone production, which leads to gradual reduction of prostate gland size. The combined effect addresses both dynamic and static components of BPH.

Ilmago may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and reversible.

Common Side Effects

• Dizziness or light‑headedness.
• Ejaculation disorders, such as reduced volume.
• Decreased libido.
• Nasal congestion or runny nose.
• Gastrointestinal upset, including nausea.
• Headache.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Orthostatic hypotension leading to fainting.
• Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty).
• Persistent breast tenderness or enlargement.
• Elevated liver enzymes indicating hepatic stress.
• Priapism (prolonged painful erection).
• Sudden loss of vision or eye pain (possible intraocular pressure changes).

Before prescribing Ilmago, clinicians should evaluate patient history and comorbidities.

• Cardiovascular assessment: monitor for hypotension, especially in patients on antihypertensives.
• Liver function: check baseline enzymes as dutasteride is metabolised hepatically.
• Surgical planning: discontinue before prostate surgery to reduce bleeding risk.
• Drug contraindications: avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to either component.
• Pregnancy and lactation: not indicated; safety not established.
• Store at ambient temperature: keep below 25 °C, retain in original packaging, protect from moisture and direct sunlight.
