• Imatinib acts on malignant cells driven by specific tyrosine kinases and is indicated for the following conditions:
• Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML): provides durable hematologic and cytogenetic responses, improving survival.
• Philadelphia chromosome‑positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL): delivers targeted BCR‑ABL inhibition to achieve remission.
• Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST): blocks KIT‑driven tumor growth, leading to disease control.

• Imatinib selectively inhibits the ATP‑binding sites of BCR‑ABL, c‑KIT and platelet‑derived growth factor receptors (PDGFR). By blocking these tyrosine kinases, it prevents downstream signaling that drives cell proliferation, survival and migration in malignant cells, resulting in apoptosis and growth arrest of the tumor.
