Imazol Plus (Clotrimazole, Hexamidine Diisetionate)

Imazol Plus is a topical antifungal and antiseptic used for common superficial skin infections.

• Dermatophytosis: Reduces fungal growth and alleviates itching, scaling and redness associated with tinea corporis, tinea pedis and related conditions.
• Cutaneous candidiasis: Controls Candida overgrowth on the skin, helping to resolve erythema and maceration.
• Superficial skin infections: Provides broad‑spectrum antiseptic activity against bacteria and fungi in minor abrasions, intertriginous areas and other mixed‑microbial lesions.

• Clotrimazole inhibits the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14α‑demethylase, blocking ergosterol synthesis and compromising cell membrane integrity. Hexamidine diisetionate exerts a broad‑spectrum antiseptic effect by disrupting microbial cell membranes, leading to leakage of intracellular contents and cell death. The combined actions result in rapid reduction of fungal and bacterial load on the skin.

Topical application of Imazol Plus may cause local reactions, most of which are mild and self‑limiting.

Common Side Effects

• Burning sensation: transient discomfort at the application site.
• Itching: mild pruritus that usually resolves with continued use.
• Redness: localized erythema around the treated area.
• Dryness: skin may feel less moist after application.
• Contact dermatitis: mild allergic skin reaction in sensitive individuals.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe allergic reaction: swelling, hives or difficulty breathing requiring immediate medical attention.
• Stevens‑Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis: rare but life‑threatening skin eruptions.
• Bullous dermatitis: formation of blisters at the site of application.
• Systemic toxicity: extremely rare absorption leading to systemic effects.
• Persistent ulceration: non‑healing skin breakdown.
• Secondary infection: overgrowth of resistant organisms if used on compromised skin.

Before using Imazol Plus, consider the following safety measures.

• Pregnancy: consult a healthcare professional before application, as safety data are limited.
• Breastfeeding: use with caution; discuss potential exposure with a physician.
• Age restriction: not recommended for infants younger than two months without medical advice.
