Imigran (Sumatriptan)

Imigran (sumatriptan) is a selective 5‑HT1B/1D receptor agonist used in the migraine disease pathway.

• Migraine attack: aborts headache and associated symptoms such as nausea, photophobia, and phonophobia.
• Migraine with aura: provides rapid relief of pain and aura manifestations.
• Acute migraine: reduces the need for additional rescue medication and improves functional recovery.

• Sumatriptan acts as a selective agonist at serotonin 5‑HT1B and 5‑HT1D receptors located on intracranial blood vessels and trigeminal nerve endings. Activation causes cranial vasoconstriction and inhibits release of vasoactive neuropeptides (e.g., CGRP), thereby interrupting the cascade that generates migraine pain.
