Imigran (Sumatriptan)

Sumatriptan is indicated for acute treatment of migraine and related headache disorders by targeting serotonergic pathways.

• Cluster headache: alleviates severe unilateral head pain and associated autonomic symptoms in acute episodes.

• Sumatriptan acts as a selective agonist at 5‑HT1B and 5‑HT1D receptors located on intracranial blood vessels and trigeminal nerve endings. Activation of 5‑HT1B receptors causes cranial vasoconstriction, while stimulation of 5‑HT1D receptors inhibits the release of pro‑inflammatory neuropeptides, thereby interrupting pain transmission within the trigeminovascular system and aborting migraine attacks.

Sumatriptan may cause a range of adverse reactions, varying from mild to serious.
