Impecin (Cilastatin, Imipenem)

• Impecin (imipenem/cilastatin) is a carbapenem antibiotic used to treat severe bacterial infections across several organ systems.

• Imipenem, protected from renal dehydropeptidase‑I degradation by cilastatin, penetrates bacterial cells and binds to penicillin‑binding proteins. This inhibition disrupts the final stages of peptidoglycan synthesis, weakening the cell wall and leading to osmotic lysis. The combined formulation ensures high plasma concentrations and broad‑spectrum activity against Gram‑positive, Gram‑negative and anaerobic organisms, retaining efficacy in the presence of many β‑lactamases.
