Imvaggis (Estriol)

Imvaggis (estriol) acts on estrogen receptors in the vaginal epithelium to treat conditions related to estrogen deficiency.

• Atrophic Vaginitis: Improves vaginal dryness and irritation in postmenopausal women.
• Dyspareunia: Reduces pain during intercourse caused by estrogen deficiency.
• Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause: Alleviates urinary urgency and frequency associated with menopausal estrogen loss.

• Estriol binds to estrogen receptors α and β in vaginal epithelial cells, initiating transcription of genes that promote cellular proliferation, increased glycogen production, and enhanced vascularization. This local estrogenic activity restores the thickness and elasticity of the vaginal mucosa, improves lubrication, and normalizes the pH, thereby mitigating symptoms of estrogen deficiency. The effect is largely confined to the application site, resulting in low systemic estradiol levels.

Local estrogen therapy may be associated with adverse reactions, most of which are mild and reversible.
