Indapamid Ratiopharm (Indapamide)

Indapamide is a thiazide‑like diuretic used to manage conditions related to excess fluid and elevated blood pressure.

• Hypertension: lowers systolic and diastolic blood pressure, helping to reduce cardiovascular risk.
• Edema due to heart failure: promotes diuresis to decrease fluid overload and improve symptoms.
• Edema due to renal disease: enhances urinary sodium and water excretion to alleviate swelling.

• Indapamide acts on the distal convoluted tubule of the nephron by inhibiting the Na⁺/Cl⁻ cotransporter. This blockade reduces sodium and chloride reabsorption, leading to increased urinary excretion of sodium, chloride and water. The resulting diuresis decreases plasma volume, while a direct vasodilatory effect on peripheral arterioles lowers systemic vascular resistance, contributing to blood‑pressure reduction. Additionally, indapamide may improve endothelial function, further supporting its antihypertensive action.
