Indapamida Atb (Indapamide)

Indapamide is indicated for several cardiovascular and renal conditions where fluid overload or high blood pressure is present.

• Hypertension: lowers systemic arterial pressure, helping to prevent cardiovascular complications.
• Edema associated with congestive heart failure: promotes diuresis to reduce fluid buildup and improve symptoms.
• Edema due to renal or hepatic disease: enhances urinary sodium and water excretion to alleviate swelling.

• Indapamide acts on the distal convoluted tubule of the nephron by inhibiting the Na⁺/Cl⁻ cotransporter. This blockade reduces sodium and chloride reabsorption, leading to increased urinary excretion of water and electrolytes. The resulting decrease in plasma volume lowers cardiac output, while a direct vasodilatory effect on peripheral arterioles reduces systemic vascular resistance, contributing to blood‑pressure reduction. Additionally, indapamide modestly enhances prostaglandin synthesis, which further supports vasodilation.

Indapamide may cause a range of adverse reactions, varying from mild to severe.

• Assess renal function: evaluate creatinine and eGFR before initiation and during therapy.
• Evaluate blood pressure: avoid use in patients with already low blood pressure to prevent hypotension.
• Caution in diabetes: monitor glucose as diuretics may affect glycemic control.
• Avoid in severe hepatic impairment: use only if benefits outweigh risks.
• Store at ambient temperature: keep tablets below 25 °C in the original container, protected from moisture.
