Infanrix-Ipv (Diphtheria Toxoid, Tetanus Toxoid, Pertussis Toxoid, Pertussis Filamentous Haemagglutinin, Pertussis)

Infanrix-Ipv is a combination vaccine that targets bacterial and viral pathogens responsible for several vaccine‑preventable diseases.

• Diphtheria: induces protective antibodies to prevent diphtheria infection.
• Tetanus: stimulates immunity that blocks tetanus toxin and disease.
• Pertussis: generates antibodies against pertussis toxin, filamentous haemagglutinin and pertactin to prevent whooping cough.

• Infanrix-Ipv works by presenting purified diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, acellular pertussis antigens (pertussis toxin, filamentous haemagglutinin, pertactin) and inactivated poliovirus to the immune system. These components are recognized as foreign, prompting B‑cell and T‑cell activation and the production of specific antibodies that neutralize the respective toxins and viruses, thereby establishing active, long‑lasting protection without causing disease.

Common Side Effects

• Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site.
• Low‑grade fever within 24‑48 hours.
• Irritability or fussiness in infants.
• Mild headache or fatigue.
• Loss of appetite.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with breathing difficulty.
• High fever (>40 °C) lasting more than 24 hours.
• Seizures or convulsions.
• Hypotonic‑hyporesponsive episode (reduced muscle tone and responsiveness).

Before vaccination, consider the following precautions:

• Allergy screening: avoid use in individuals with known severe allergy to any vaccine component.
• Illness assessment: postpone vaccination in children with moderate or severe acute illness.
• Observation: monitor the patient for at least 15 minutes after injection for immediate reactions.
