Infanrix-Polio is a combination vaccine that protects against viral and bacterial respiratory infections in the pediatric population.

• Poliomyelitis (type 3): prevents infection caused by poliovirus type 3.
• Pertussis (whooping cough): prevents disease caused by Bordetella pertussis.
• Childhood immunisation schedule: provides scheduled protection as part of routine infant vaccination programmes.

• Infanrix-Polio contains inactivated poliovirus type 3 particles and pertussis filamentous haemagglutinin adsorbed onto an adjuvant. After intramuscular injection, the antigens are taken up by antigen‑presenting cells, stimulating B‑cell and T‑cell responses that generate neutralising antibodies and cellular immunity, thereby establishing active protection against poliovirus type 3 and pertussis.

Common Side Effects

• Injection site pain: mild to moderate discomfort at the site of administration.
• Redness or swelling: localized erythema or edema.
• Low‑grade fever: transient temperature rise within 24‑48 hours.
• Irritability or crying: especially in infants.
• Loss of appetite: temporary decrease in feeding.
• Fatigue: mild tiredness after vaccination.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Anaphylaxis: severe allergic reaction requiring immediate medical attention.
• Seizures: febrile or non‑febrile convulsions.
• High fever (>40 °C): may indicate a systemic reaction.
• Prolonged crying (>3 hours): possible sign of distress.
• Hypotonic‑hyporesponsive episode: rare neurological event.
• Severe local reaction: necrosis or ulceration at injection site.
