Infectomite (Permethrin)

• Permethrin is an antiparasitic agent used to treat ectoparasitic skin infestations.
• Scabies: eliminates the Sarcoptes scabiei mite, relieving itching and rash.
• Pediculosis: eradicates head and body lice, breaking the infestation cycle.
• Other ectoparasitic skin infections: controls additional mite or lice species that cause skin irritation.

• Permethrin acts by binding to voltage‑gated sodium channels on the nerve membranes of ectoparasites. This binding prolongs the opening of the channels, leading to persistent depolarization, paralysis, and ultimately death of the parasite. The selective toxicity arises from differences between insect and mammalian sodium channel structures, allowing topical use with limited systemic absorption.

Common Side Effects

• Skin irritation: mild redness or itching at the application site.
• Burning sensation: transient warmth or tingling.
• Dryness: localized skin dryness or flaking.
• Mild rash: occasional erythematous patches.
• Pruritus: temporary increase in itching.
• Peeling: superficial skin shedding.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Allergic reaction: angioedema or urticaria requiring medical attention.
• Severe dermatitis: intense inflammation or blistering.
• Contact dermatitis: persistent rash with swelling.
• Systemic neurotoxicity: rare signs such as dizziness or tremor.
• Stevens‑Johnson syndrome: extremely rare severe skin reaction.
• Anaphylaxis: life‑threatening hypersensitivity response.

• Before using Infectomite, consider the following safety measures.
• Apply to intact skin only: avoid broken or inflamed areas.
• Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes: rinse thoroughly if exposure occurs.
• Do not use on infants under 2 months: safety not established.
• Wash hands after application: prevent accidental transfer to others.
• Avoid simultaneous use with other topical insecticides: risk of increased irritation.
• Store below 25°C: keep in the original container, protect from moisture and direct sunlight.
