Infectoscab (Permethrin)

Infectoscab is a scabicide that acts on ectoparasitic infestations of the skin.

• Scabies: eliminates Sarcoptes scabiei mites and resolves associated itching and rash.
• Crusted scabies: reduces high mite burden in severe, hyperinfested cases.
• Secondary bacterial infection prevention: helps prevent infection by removing the primary cause of skin irritation.

• Permethrin blocks voltage‑gated sodium channels on the neuronal membranes of mites and lice, prolonging the opening of the channel. This disrupts normal nerve impulse transmission, causing paralysis and eventual death of the parasite, thereby clearing the infestation from the skin.

Topical application of Permethrin may cause local skin reactions and, rarely, systemic effects.

Common Side Effects

• Mild itching or burning at the application site.
• Redness or erythema of the skin.
• Dryness or flaking of treated skin.
• Minor rash or hives.
• Tingling sensation.
• Temporary worsening of itching.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with swelling, difficulty breathing.
• Extensive skin irritation or dermatitis.
• Secondary infection of the skin.
• Systemic toxicity presenting as dizziness or nausea.
• Unusual swelling or blistering of the skin.
• Persistent or worsening rash despite treatment.

Infectoscab should be used according to a qualified health‑care professional’s instructions.

• Contraindication: Do not apply to individuals with known hypersensitivity to permethrin or other pyrethroids.
• Age restriction: Use only in patients for whom the prescriber deems it appropriate, typically older children and adults.
• Application area: Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, and open wounds.
• Pregnancy and lactation: Discuss risks with a health‑care provider before use.
• Storage: Store at room temperature below 25°C: keep in the original container, protect from moisture and direct sunlight.

Permethrin’s topical use has limited systemic drug interaction potential.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• Concurrent use of other topical scabicides containing organophosphates, which may increase neurotoxic risk.
• Application over large areas combined with systemic neurotoxic agents.

Moderate Interactions (Monitor Closely)

• Use with other skin irritants or sensitizers may exacerbate local reactions.
• Co‑administration with topical corticosteroids may mask irritation signs.
• Overlapping use with other antiparasitic creams may increase skin absorption.
• Use with occlusive dressings can enhance systemic exposure.
• Combination with other pyrethroid products should be avoided to prevent cumulative toxicity.
