Infectoscab (Permethrin)

Infectoscab contains permethrin, a pyrethroid that acts on ectoparasites causing skin infestations. It is indicated for the following conditions:

• Scabies: eliminates the Sarcoptes scabiei mite, relieving itching and preventing spread.
• Pediculosis (lice): eradicates head and body lice, breaking the life cycle and reducing reinfestation.

• Permethrin blocks voltage‑gated sodium channels in the nervous system of parasites, prolonging channel opening and causing persistent depolarization. This leads to paralysis and death of the mites or lice, while having limited absorption through intact human skin, resulting in a localized antiparasitic effect.

Permethrin is generally well tolerated, but local reactions may occur.

Common Side Effects

• Skin irritation: mild redness at the application site.
• Itching: transient pruritus after treatment.
• Burning sensation: brief warmth or tingling.
• Dryness: localized skin dryness.
• Rash: mild maculopapular eruption.
• Peeling: superficial skin flaking.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Allergic reaction: hives, swelling, or anaphylaxis.
• Severe dermatitis: intense inflammation or blistering.
• Systemic toxicity: rare neurological symptoms such as dizziness.
• Stevens‑Johnson syndrome: extremely rare severe skin reaction.
• Contact dermatitis: prolonged irritation from repeated use.
• Photosensitivity: heightened skin sensitivity to sunlight.

Before using Infectoscab, consider the following safety measures:

• Confirm diagnosis: ensure scabies or lice infestation is correctly identified.
• Avoid broken skin: do not apply on open wounds or inflamed areas.
• Age restriction: not recommended for infants younger than 2 months without medical advice.
• Eye protection: keep the product away from eyes and mucous membranes.
• Use protective gloves: wear gloves during application to minimize personal exposure.
• Store at room temperature: keep in the original container, protect from moisture and direct sunlight.

Permethrin topical has limited systemic interactions, but caution is advised with certain co‑administered agents.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• Concurrent use of other neurotoxic insecticides: may increase neurotoxic risk.
• Co‑application with other scabicidal agents: can cause excessive skin irritation.

Moderate Interactions (Monitor Closely)

• Use with other topical irritants (e.g., benzoyl peroxide): monitor for increased dermatitis.
• Concurrent photosensitizing drugs (e.g., tetracyclines): advise sun protection.
• Application with topical corticosteroids: may mask irritation signs.
• Use with systemic antiepileptic drugs: observe for rare neurological effects.
