Inkontan (Trospium Chloride)

Trospium Chloride is used to manage symptoms of overactive bladder and related urinary disorders.

• Trospium Chloride acts as a competitive antagonist at muscarinic (M3) receptors in the bladder detrusor muscle. By blocking acetylcholine binding, it reduces involuntary smooth‑muscle contractions, thereby increasing functional bladder capacity and decreasing urgency and frequency of urination.

Adverse reactions may occur with trospium chloride therapy.

Common Side Effects

• Dry mouth: reduced salivary secretion.
• Constipation: slowed gastrointestinal motility.
• Blurred vision: transient visual disturbances.
• Headache: mild to moderate intensity.
• Dizziness: sensation of light‑headedness.
• Urinary retention: difficulty initiating voiding.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe allergic reaction: rash, swelling, or anaphylaxis.
• Acute urinary retention: sudden inability to urinate requiring medical intervention.
• Severe constipation: risk of bowel obstruction.
• Tachycardia: rapid heart rate.
• Hallucinations: rare central nervous system effects.
• Stevens‑Johnson syndrome: severe skin reaction.

Before initiating therapy, consider the following precautions.

• Assess renal function: dose adjustment may be needed in impaired clearance.
• Review anticholinergic load: avoid excessive cumulative anticholinergic effects.
• Monitor for urinary retention: advise patients to report difficulty voiding.
• Caution in glaucoma: may exacerbate intra‑ocular pressure.
• Discontinue if hypersensitivity occurs: stop treatment immediately.
