Instillagel (Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Lidocaine Hydrochloride)

Instillagel, containing chlorhexidine and lidocaine, is used in the urological antiseptic pathway to manage infection risk and provide local anesthesia.

• Chlorhexidine gluconate acts by binding to bacterial cell membranes, disrupting their integrity and causing leakage of intracellular contents, which leads to cell death. Lidocaine hydrochloride provides local anesthesia by reversibly blocking voltage‑gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes, preventing the initiation and propagation of nerve impulses and thereby producing analgesia at the site of application. The combined formulation allows simultaneous antiseptic action and pain control during urethral procedures.

Instillagel may cause local adverse reactions at the application site.

Common Side Effects

• Burning sensation: mild transient burning in the urethra.
• Stinging: brief stinging upon instillation.
