Iodina (Povidone, Iodinated)

Iodina (povidone‑iodine) is a broad‑spectrum antiseptic used for skin and wound management.

• Skin antisepsis: reduces microbial load on intact or compromised skin before procedures.
• Wound cleaning: helps cleanse minor cuts, abrasions and superficial wounds to prevent infection.
• Pre‑operative skin preparation: prepares surgical sites by eliminating surface microorganisms.

• Povidone‑iodine releases free iodine upon contact with tissue. The iodine penetrates microbial cell walls, oxidizing cellular components and iodinating proteins, which rapidly disrupts metabolic pathways and leads to microbial death across bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa.

Iodina may cause local reactions following topical application.

Common Side Effects

• Skin irritation: mild redness or discomfort at the application site.
• Itching or burning sensation: transient sensation during or after use.
