Iopamiro (Iopamidol)

Iopamidol, the active ingredient in Iopamiro, is a iodinated non‑ionic contrast agent presented as a solution for injection for intraarterial, intraarticular, and intrathecal use. It enhances radiographic contrast during diagnostic imaging procedures such as angiography, arthrography, myelography and computed tomography in patients requiring detailed vascular or tissue visualization.

GNH India supplies Iopamiro as a licensed, GDP‑compliant international pharmaceutical supplier serving hospitals, imaging centres and clinics worldwide.

Indications & Clinical Uses

Iopamiro, an iodinated non‑ionic contrast agent, is used to improve visualization of vascular and tissue structures in diagnostic imaging.

  • Angiography: provides high‑contrast images of blood vessels for accurate assessment of vascular anatomy and pathology.
  • Arthrography: enhances joint space visualization to aid in the diagnosis of ligament, cartilage and intra‑articular lesions.
  • Myelography: delineates the spinal canal and nerve roots, facilitating detection of compressive lesions.
  • Computed tomography (CT) imaging: improves organ and lesion contrast, supporting precise anatomical evaluation.

How It Works

  • Iopamidol is a water‑soluble, non‑ionic iodine‑containing molecule that absorbs X‑ray photons. After intra‑vascular or intra‑cavitary administration, the iodine atoms increase X‑ray attenuation, creating a temporary radiodense contrast between blood, tissues, and surrounding structures. This enhanced attenuation allows radiologists to differentiate anatomical details during angiography, arthrography, myelography, and CT scans.

Side Effects

Iopamiro may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and transient.

Common Side Effects

  • Warm sensation or flushing at the injection site.
  • Mild nausea or vomiting.
  • Headache.
  • Metallic taste in the mouth.
  • Transient urticaria or itching.
  • Temporary mild hypotension.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with respiratory distress.
  • Acute renal impairment, especially in patients with pre‑existing kidney disease.
  • Seizures or convulsions.
  • Cardiac arrhythmias or cardiac arrest.
  • Pulmonary edema.
  • Persistent severe hypotension requiring intervention.

Precautions & Warnings

Before administering Iopamiro, clinicians should consider several safety measures.

  • Assess renal function: evaluate serum creatinine and eGFR to identify patients at risk of contrast‑induced nephropathy.
  • Review allergy history: confirm no prior severe reactions to iodine‑based contrast agents.
  • Ensure adequate hydration: encourage fluid intake before and after the procedure to support renal clearance.
  • Use the lowest effective dose: tailor volume to the specific imaging requirement.
  • Monitor vital signs: observe blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation during and after injection.
  • Store at ambient temperature: keep in original container, protect from moisture and direct sunlight.

Avoid Interactions

  • Iopamiro can interact with other medicines
