Iopamiro (Iopamidol)

Iopamidol is used as a radiographic contrast medium to enhance visualization of vascular and body spaces in imaging procedures.

• Angiography: improves vessel delineation for diagnostic and interventional studies.
• Arthrography: enhances joint space contrast to assess cartilage and soft‑tissue structures.
• Myelography: provides clear delineation of the spinal canal and nerve roots.
• Enhanced CT imaging: increases attenuation of X‑rays for superior organ and lesion detection.

• Iopamidol contains iodine atoms that absorb X‑ray photons, increasing the attenuation of X‑rays in the vascular and extracellular compartments where it is administered. The resulting difference in radiodensity between enhanced and non‑enhanced tissues allows high‑resolution visualization of anatomical structures during angiography, arthrography, myelography, and computed tomography scans.

Adverse reactions may occur following administration of Iopamiro. Most are mild and transient.

Common Side Effects

• Warm sensation or flushing at the injection site.
• Nausea or mild vomiting.
• Headache or dizziness.
• Transient metallic taste.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.
• Acute kidney injury, especially in patients with pre‑existing renal impairment.
• Cardiovascular collapse or hypotension.
• Pulmonary edema or bronchospasm.
• Seizures or altered mental status.

Iopamiro should be used with careful assessment of patient risk factors and appropriate monitoring.

• Renal function assessment: evaluate serum creatinine before administration in at-risk patients.
• Allergy history: screen for prior reactions to iodinated contrast agents.
• Hydration: ensure adequate fluid intake before and after the procedure to reduce nephrotoxicity.
• Concomitant nephrotoxic drugs: consider dose adjustment or alternative imaging.
• Store at ambient temperature: keep in original container, protect from light and moisture.

Iopamiro may interact with other agents that affect renal function or hypersensitivity risk.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• High‑dose nephrotoxic antibiotics (e.g., aminoglycosides): increase risk of renal injury.
• Loop diuretics combined with dehydration: potentiate contrast‑induced nephropathy.

Moderate Interactions (Monitor Closely)

• Metformin: temporarily discontinue in patients with impaired renal function.
• Beta‑blockers: may mask signs of contrast‑induced hypertension.
• NSAIDs: monitor renal parameters when used concurrently.
