Iopamiron (Iopamidol)

Iopamiron is used as an iodinated contrast agent in radiographic procedures that require enhanced vascular and tissue visualization.

• Iopamidol contains high‑density iodine atoms that absorb X‑ray photons. After intravenous or intra‑arterial injection, the iodine distributes within the vascular and extracellular compartments, increasing X‑ray beam attenuation. This heightened attenuation creates a contrast between blood‑filled structures and surrounding tissues on radiographic images, allowing detailed anatomical assessment without interacting with specific cellular receptors.

Iopamiron may be associated with a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and transient, while rare events can be serious.

Common Side Effects

• Warm sensation or flushing: brief feeling of heat during injection.
• Metallic taste: transient alteration of taste perception.
• Nausea or vomiting: mild gastrointestinal upset.
• Injection site pain: localized discomfort at the infusion site.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe allergic reaction or anaphylaxis: rapid onset of respiratory distress, rash and hypotension.
• Contrast‑induced nephropathy: acute decline in renal function, especially in patients with pre‑existing kidney disease.
• Cardiopulmonary arrest: rare life‑threatening event requiring immediate resuscitation.

• Renal function assessment: evaluate serum creatinine and eGFR before administration.
• Iodine allergy review: confirm no history of severe reactions to iodinated contrast.

Major Interactions (Avoid)
