Iopamiron (Iopamidol)

• Iopamidol contains a high density of iodine atoms that absorb X‑ray photons, thereby increasing the attenuation of the X‑ray beam in the vascular and extracellular compartments where it distributes. After intravenous, intra‑articular or intrathecal administration, the molecule remains largely extracellular, producing a temporary, high‑contrast difference between blood‑filled structures and surrounding tissues, which is captured by radiographic, CT or fluoroscopic imaging systems.

Iopamiron may be associated with a range of adverse reactions, from mild and transient to serious, though most patients tolerate the agent well.
