Iqymune (Human Normal Immunoglobulin)

Iqymune is an immunoglobulin therapy used to address disorders of the immune system. It is indicated for:

• Primary Immunodeficiency (PID): restores IgG levels to reduce the frequency and severity of infections.
• Secondary Immunodeficiency (e.g., post‑chemotherapy or HIV‑related): supplies supplemental antibodies to protect against opportunistic pathogens.
• Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia and Immune Thrombocytopenia: modulates immune response to decrease autoantibody‑mediated cell destruction.

• Human Normal Immunoglobulin in Iqymune supplies a broad spectrum of IgG antibodies that bind to and neutralize pathogens, facilitate opsonization, and activate complement pathways. The exogenous IgG also interacts with Fc receptors on immune cells, modulating cytokine release and down‑regulating autoreactive B‑cell activity, thereby providing passive immunity and immune regulation.

Adverse reactions may occur with Iqymune administration.

Common Side Effects

• Headache: mild to moderate pain often occurring during or after infusion.
• Fever: transient rise in body temperature.
• Chills: shaking sensations during infusion.
• Nausea: mild gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Fatigue: feeling of tiredness post‑infusion.
• Infusion‑related reactions: erythema, flushing, or mild hypotension.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Anaphylaxis: severe allergic reaction requiring immediate medical attention.
• Thromboembolic events: clot formation in veins or arteries.
• Hemolysis: destruction of red blood cells.
• Renal failure: acute kidney injury, especially with rapid infusion.
• Aseptic meningitis: inflammation of meninges without infection.

Before initiating Iqymune therapy, consider the following precautions:

• Assess IgA deficiency: patients with anti‑IgA antibodies may be at risk of severe reactions.
• Monitor for infection signs: watch for new or worsening infections during treatment.
• Adjust dose in renal impairment: reduced clearance may require slower infusion rates.
• Avoid in known severe hypersensitivity: discontinue if anaphylaxis occurs.
