• Irbesartan selectively blocks the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor, preventing angiotensin II from binding and triggering vasoconstriction and aldosterone release. This inhibition leads to relaxation of vascular smooth muscle, reduced peripheral resistance, and decreased sodium and water retention, thereby lowering blood pressure and providing renal protection.
