Irbesartan Aurobindo (Irbesartan)

• Irbesartan belongs to the angiotensin II receptor blocker class and is used to treat conditions related to the renin‑angiotensin system.
• Hypertension: reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure by blocking AT1 receptors, improving vascular tone.
• Diabetic nephropathy: slows progression of renal impairment in patients with type 2 diabetes by decreasing intraglomerular pressure.
• Heart failure: lowers afterload and improves cardiac output, aiding symptom control in chronic heart failure.

• Irbesartan selectively antagonizes angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors on vascular smooth muscle, adrenal gland and renal tissue. By preventing angiotensin II binding, it inhibits vasoconstriction, aldosterone secretion and sodium‑water retention, leading to reduced peripheral resistance and blood pressure.

Irbesartan is generally well tolerated, but adverse reactions can occur.
