Irbesartan + Hidroclorotiazida Mylan (Hydrochlorothiazide, Irbesartan)

Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide is indicated for the management of hypertension, a cardiovascular condition characterized by elevated blood pressure.

• Hypertension: lowers systolic and diastolic pressure, reducing the risk of cardiovascular events.
• Primary (essential) hypertension: provides effective blood pressure control when monotherapy is insufficient.
• Hypertension with diabetes: assists in protecting renal function while controlling blood pressure.

• Irbesartan selectively blocks AT1 receptors, preventing angiotensin II‑mediated vasoconstriction and aldosterone release. Hydrochlorothiazide inhibits sodium‑chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule, increasing urinary excretion of water and electrolytes, which together lower circulating blood volume and systemic vascular resistance, resulting in reduced blood pressure.

Common Side Effects

• Dizziness or light‑headedness.
• Headache.
• Fatigue or weakness.
• Increased urination.
• Mild electrolyte disturbances (e.g., low potassium).
• Gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe dehydration or electrolyte imbalance.
• Acute kidney injury or worsening renal function.
• Significant hypotension.
• Allergic reactions including rash or angioedema.
• Hyperkalemia.
• Pancreatitis (rare).

Before initiating therapy, patients should be evaluated for renal function, electrolyte status and blood pressure control.

• Monitor blood pressure regularly: adjust therapy if target values are not achieved.
• Assess renal function: avoid use in severe renal impairment.
• Check serum electrolytes: especially potassium and sodium levels.
• Use caution in elderly patients: increased sensitivity to hypotensive effects.
• Avoid concurrent use with other ARBs, ACE inhibitors or aliskiren in diabetic patients.
• Store at room temperature: keep in the original container, protect from moisture and direct sunlight.

Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide may interact with several medicines that affect blood pressure, renal function or electrolyte balance.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• ACE inhibitors, aliskiren, or other ARBs: risk of additive hypotension and renal dysfunction.
• Potassium‑sparing diuretics or potassium supplements: may cause hyperkalemia.

Moderate Interactions (Monitor Closely)
