• Irbesartan selectively blocks angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors, preventing angiotensin II‑mediated vasoconstriction, aldosterone release, and sympathetic activation. This results in vasodilation, reduced sodium and water retention, and lowered blood pressure, while also providing renal and cardiac protective effects.
