Irbesartan acts on the renin‑angiotensin‑aldosterone system to lower blood pressure and reduce renal stress.

• Hypertension: lowers systolic and diastolic pressure, helping to prevent cardiovascular events.
• Diabetic nephropathy: slows progression of kidney damage associated with type 2 diabetes.
• Proteinuria in diabetes: reduces urinary protein excretion, indicating renal protection.

• Irbesartan selectively blocks angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors on vascular smooth muscle and adrenal tissue, preventing angiotensin II‑mediated vasoconstriction and aldosterone release. This results in vasodilation, reduced sodium and water retention, and ultimately lower systemic blood pressure while offering renal protective effects.
