Isomonit (Isosorbide Mononitrate)

Isomonit belongs to the organic nitrate class and is used to manage coronary artery disease‑related chest pain.

• Prophylaxis of angina pectoris: reduces the frequency of anginal episodes in patients with known coronary disease.
• Chronic stable angina: improves exercise tolerance and decreases the need for short‑acting nitrates.
• Ischemic heart disease (stable): helps maintain consistent myocardial oxygen supply by preventing vasospasm.

• Isosorbide mononitrate is metabolized to release nitric oxide, which activates guanylate cyclase in vascular smooth muscle. The resulting increase in cyclic GMP causes relaxation of arterial and venous smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation, reduced preload and afterload, and improved myocardial oxygen balance.

Adverse reactions may occur with any anti‑anginal therapy.

Common Side Effects

• Headache: mild to moderate, often transient.
• Dizziness or light‑headedness: related to blood pressure lowering.
• Flushing: warm sensation, usually self‑limited.
• Nausea: occasional gastrointestinal upset.
