Jevtana (Cabazitaxel)

• Cabazitaxel is indicated for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer that no longer responds to hormonal therapy and has progressed after prior chemotherapy.
• Metastatic castration‑resistant prostate cancer: improves overall survival and delays disease progression in patients previously treated with docetaxel.
• Patients previously treated with docetaxel: offers a taxane alternative that can overcome resistance.
• Hormone‑refractory prostate cancer: used when disease progresses despite androgen deprivation therapy.

• Cabazitaxel binds to the β‑tubulin subunit of microtubules, promoting polymerization and stabilizing the microtubule network. This prevents depolymerization, disrupts mitotic spindle formation, arrests cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle, and ultimately triggers apoptosis of rapidly dividing cancer cells.

Common Side Effects

• Neutropenia: reduced white blood cell count increasing infection risk.
• Fatigue: persistent tiredness affecting daily activities.
• Nausea: upset stomach often managed with anti‑emetics.
• Alopecia: hair loss that may be temporary.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Febrile neutropenia: fever with low neutrophils requiring urgent care.
• Severe infection: sepsis or pneumonia due to immune suppression.
• Hypersensitivity reactions: rash, bronchospasm, or anaphylaxis.
• Pulmonary toxicity: shortness of breath or interstitial lung changes.
