Jext (Epinephrine Bitartrate)

Epinephrine is a sympathomimetic amine used in emergency management of acute allergic and respiratory conditions.

• Anaphylaxis: rapid reversal of airway obstruction, hypotension and circulatory collapse.
• Severe allergic reactions: mitigation of systemic histamine effects and prevention of progression to anaphylaxis.
• Acute asthma exacerbations: bronchodilation to improve airflow during severe attacks.

• Epinephrine binds to both alpha‑ and beta‑adrenergic receptors. Alpha‑1 stimulation causes peripheral vasoconstriction, raising blood pressure and reducing mucosal edema. Beta‑1 activation increases heart rate and contractility, improving cardiac output. Beta‑2 stimulation relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, producing bronchodilation and facilitating airflow during allergic or asthmatic crises.

Common Side Effects

• Tremor: involuntary shaking, often of the hands.
• Palpitations: sensation of rapid or irregular heartbeat.
• Anxiety: heightened nervousness or feeling of unease.
• Headache: mild to moderate pain in the head.
• Nausea: feeling of stomach upset.
• Sweating: increased perspiration.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Cardiac arrhythmia: abnormal heart rhythm that may be life‑threatening.
• Hypertensive crisis: sudden, severe elevation of blood pressure.
• Myocardial ischemia: reduced blood flow to heart muscle.
• Pulmonary edema: fluid accumulation in the lungs.
• Severe local tissue necrosis: damage at the injection site.
• Allergic reaction to the formulation: rash, swelling, or anaphylaxis.

Epinephrine should be used with careful clinical assessment and adherence to recommended administration techniques.

• Assess cardiovascular status: avoid in patients with known severe arrhythmias unless benefits outweigh risks.
• Use with caution in hypertension: monitor blood pressure closely after injection.
• Avoid intravascular injection: ensure proper intramuscular technique to prevent systemic overdose.
• Pregnancy and lactation: administer only if clearly needed after physician evaluation.
• Drug interactions: review concomitant beta‑blockers, MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.
• Store at 2-8°C: keep refrigerated, protect from light, do not freeze or shake.
