Jinarc (Tolvaptan)

Jinarc, a vasopressin V2 receptor antagonist, is used in disorders of water balance and cystic kidney disease.

• Hyponatremia: helps correct low serum sodium levels in euvolemic or hypervolemic states.
• Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD): slows cyst growth and preserves kidney function.
• Euvolemic hyponatremia: restores normal water excretion without electrolyte loss.

• Tolvaptan selectively blocks the vasopressin V2 receptors located in the renal collecting ducts, inhibiting the action of antidiuretic hormone. This antagonism reduces the insertion of aquaporin‑2 water channels, promoting free water excretion while preserving sodium and other electrolytes, thereby correcting dilutional hyponatremia and reducing cystic fluid accumulation in ADPKD.
