Jodas Bp (Iodine)

• Jodas Bp is an iodine‑based antiseptic that acts on a broad range of skin‑borne microorganisms.
• Skin disinfection: reduces microbial load on intact skin before invasive procedures.
• Wound cleansing: helps cleanse minor cuts, abrasions and superficial burns.
• Preoperative skin preparation: prepares the surgical site to lower the risk of postoperative infection.

• Iodine exerts broad‑spectrum antimicrobial activity by iodinating microbial proteins and oxidizing cellular components, which disrupts essential metabolic pathways and leads to rapid cell death of bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa.

Topical iodine can cause local reactions and, in rare cases, systemic effects.

Common Side Effects

• Skin irritation or redness at the application site.
• Itching or mild burning sensation.
• Temporary staining of skin or clothing.
• Mild allergic contact dermatitis.
• Dryness or peeling of treated skin.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with swelling, hives or difficulty breathing.
• Chemical burn or ulceration on prolonged exposure.
• Systemic iodine toxicity presenting as thyroid dysfunction.
• Persistent discoloration of skin that does not fade.
• Secondary infection if the area is not kept clean.

• Before using Jodas Bp, consider the following safety measures.
• Allergy assessment: avoid if the patient has a known iodine or povidone‑iodine allergy.
• Skin condition: do not apply to severely damaged, necrotic or heavily exuding wounds unless directed by a clinician.
• Eye contact: avoid contact with eyes; if accidental, rinse thoroughly with water.
• Pregnancy and lactation: consult a healthcare professional before use.
• Medical devices: do not apply to latex or silicone devices that may be degraded by iodine.
• Store at room temperature: keep in the original container, protect from light and moisture.

Iodine can interact with other topical agents and systemic iodine sources.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• Concurrent use of other iodine‑containing products, which may lead to excess iodine exposure.
• Application together with silver sulfadiazine on the same area, as it may reduce the efficacy of both agents.

Moderate Interactions (Monitor Closely)

• Use with topical corticosteroids may increase skin irritation.
• Combination with wound dressings containing aluminum can affect iodine absorption.
• Concurrent systemic iodine‑containing medications (e.g., contrast agents) may increase total iodine load.
