Jodi Gel (Povidone, Iodinated)

• Povidone‑iodine is a topical antiseptic employed for skin antisepsis and wound management.
• Pre‑operative skin preparation: applied to intact skin before surgical or invasive procedures to reduce microbial colonisation and lower the risk of postoperative infection.
• Minor cuts, abrasions and burns: cleanses superficial wounds, providing antimicrobial protection that helps prevent secondary infection during the natural healing process.
• Chronic or acute wound care: used on skin lesions such as ulcers or traumatic wounds to limit bacterial growth and support a clean wound environment.

• Povidone‑iodine releases free iodine when applied to the skin. The iodine penetrates microbial cell walls and rapidly oxidises essential proteins, nucleic acids and lipids, leading to irreversible damage and death of a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa, thereby providing broad‑spectrum antiseptic activity.

Adverse reactions may occur at the site of application or systemically in rare cases.

Common Side Effects

• Skin irritation or mild redness at the application site.
• Itching or burning sensation.
• Temporary staining of the skin or surrounding fabrics.
• Mild allergic contact dermatitis.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) requiring immediate medical attention.

• Thyroid dysfunction due to systemic iodine absorption.
• Systemic iodine toxicity, especially when large body surface areas are treated.

• When using Jodi Gel, consider the following safety measures.

• Pregnancy and lactation: use only if clearly needed; consult a healthcare professional.
• Large surface area application: limit to small areas to reduce systemic iodine absorption.
• Eye contact: avoid; if it occurs, irrigate thoroughly with water.
• Use on damaged mucous membranes: contraindicated.
• Store at room temperature: keep container tightly closed, protect from light and moisture.
