Jodid (Potassium Iodide)

Jodid provides iodide for thyroid‑related pathways and for protection against radioactive iodine exposure.

• Radiation emergency prophylaxis: reduces thyroid uptake of radioactive iodine following nuclear incidents.
• Iodine deficiency: supplies supplemental iodide to support normal thyroid hormone production.

• Potassium Iodide dissociates to release iodide ions, which are taken up by the thyroid gland via the sodium‑iodide symporter. The increased iodide pool supports synthesis of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). In radiation emergencies, excess iodide competitively inhibits the thyroid's uptake of radioactive iodine isotopes, thereby limiting internal radiation dose.

Potassium Iodide may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and transient.
