• Desogestrel selectively binds to progesterone receptors in the hypothalamus and pituitary, inhibiting the luteinizing hormone surge required for ovulation. It also induces changes in cervical mucus, making it less permeable to sperm, and alters the endometrial lining, reducing the likelihood of implantation, thereby preventing pregnancy.
