Kadefungin 6 (Clotrimazole)

Clotrimazole is an imidazole antifungal that acts on Candida species affecting the genital tract.

• Vaginal candidiasis: alleviates itching, discharge, and irritation by eradicating the yeast infection.
• Prevention of recurrent vaginal candidiasis: reduces the frequency of future episodes when used as directed.
• Treatment of mild to moderate Candida infection of the vagina: restores normal vaginal flora and relieves symptoms.

• Clotrimazole inhibits the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14α‑demethylase, a key component of the ergosterol biosynthesis pathway. By blocking this enzyme, the drug disrupts the production of ergosterol, an essential sterol for fungal cell membrane integrity, leading to increased membrane permeability and ultimately cell death. The inhibition is localized to the site of application, resulting in minimal systemic absorption.

Clotrimazole may cause local adverse reactions, most of which are mild, transient, and confined to the vaginal area.
