Kalinox (Nitrous Oxide, Oxygen)

• Kalinox, an inhalational analgesic and sedative, is used in clinical situations that require rapid, controllable pain relief and mild sedation.
• Procedural analgesia: provides effective pain control during minor surgical or dental procedures.
• Sedation for minor surgery: facilitates patient comfort and cooperation during brief surgical interventions.
• Dental procedures: reduces pain and anxiety during extractions, restorations and other dental treatments.

• Nitrous oxide acts as an NMDA receptor antagonist and modulates GABAergic neurotransmission, while the accompanying oxygen maintains adequate tissue oxygenation. The combined gas mixture produces analgesia and mild sedation when inhaled, allowing rapid onset and quick recovery after discontinuation.

Adverse reactions may occur with inhalation of the nitrous oxide‑oxygen mixture.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Avoid prolonged exposure: limit administration to the shortest duration required for the procedure.
• Store at ambient temperature: keep cylinders in a well‑ventilated, dry area, protected from direct sunlight and secure from unauthorized access.

Nitrous oxide can interact with other agents that affect the central nervous system or oxygen balance.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• Other CNS depressants (e.g., opioids, benzodiazepines): additive sedation and respiratory depression.
• Inhaled anesthetics (e.g., sevoflurane, isoflurane): increased risk of respiratory compromise.
• Methotrexate therapy: potentiates hematologic toxicity.
