• Candesartan cilexetil is a prodrug that is converted to candesartan, which selectively blocks the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone release. Hydrochlorothiazide inhibits Na⁺/Cl⁻ reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule, increasing urinary sodium and water excretion, thereby reducing plasma volume and peripheral resistance. The combined actions result in lowered arterial pressure.
