Caspofungin is used to treat invasive fungal infections by targeting the cell wall of susceptible yeasts and molds. It is administered intravenously under clinical supervision.

• Invasive candidiasis: eradicates bloodstream and deep‑tissue Candida infections, including candidemia and organ‑specific candidiasis, thereby improving survival rates and reducing fungal burden.
• Esophageal candidiasis: resolves mucosal Candida lesions, alleviates dysphagia and odynophagia, and promotes healing of the esophageal lining in immunocompromised patients.
• Invasive aspergillosis: provides potent antifungal activity against Aspergillus species in high‑risk individuals, helping to control pulmonary and disseminated disease.

• Caspofungin belongs to the echinocandin class and exerts its antifungal effect by non‑competitively inhibiting the enzyme β‑(1,3)‑D‑glucan synthase. This enzyme catalyzes the synthesis of β‑(1,3)‑D‑glucan, an essential polysaccharide component of the fungal cell wall. Inhibition leads to weakened cell wall integrity, osmotic instability and ultimately fungal cell lysis, while human cells lacking this pathway remain unaffected. The drug displays concentration‑dependent activity and is primarily cleared by hepatic metabolism and renal excretion.
