• Ketotifen is indicated for allergic disorders that involve mast cell activation.
• Allergic rhinitis: reduces nasal congestion, sneezing, itching and watery discharge caused by seasonal or perennial allergens.
• Allergic conjunctivitis: alleviates ocular itching, redness, swelling and tearing that occur during allergic eye reactions.
• Asthma prophylaxis: helps prevent bronchospasm, airway hyper‑responsiveness and inflammatory episodes in patients with allergic asthma when used as a preventive therapy.

• Ketotifen acts by stabilizing mast cells, preventing their degranulation, and by competitively blocking H1 histamine receptors. The combined effect limits the release of histamine, leukotrienes and other inflammatory mediators, thereby reducing vascular permeability, smooth‑muscle contraction and sensory nerve activation that underlie allergic symptoms. It also modestly inhibits eosinophil chemotaxis and may reduce cytokine production from activated immune cells.

Ketotifen may be associated with a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and reversible.
