Ketotifen is an H1 antihistamine that stabilizes mast cells and reduces histamine‑mediated responses in allergic disorders.

• Asthma prophylaxis: helps prevent bronchospasm and airway inflammation in allergic asthma.

• Ketotifen exerts its effect by binding to H1 histamine receptors, blocking the action of histamine, and by stabilizing mast cell membranes, which inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators such as leukotrienes, prostaglandins and cytokines. This dual action reduces immediate hypersensitivity reactions and the late‑phase inflammatory response associated with allergic airway disease. Additionally, ketotifen may modulate calcium influx in mast cells, further limiting degranulation.
