Klimicin (Clindamycin)

Clindamycin is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria across several clinical categories.

• Skin and soft‑tissue infections: eradicates the causative organisms and promotes healing of cellulitis, abscesses and wound infections.
• Bone and joint infections: eliminates pathogens in osteomyelitis and septic arthritis, supporting recovery of musculoskeletal structures.
• Intra‑abdominal infections: controls mixed aerobic‑anaerobic infections following surgery or perforated viscera.
• Anaerobic bacterial infections: targets clostridial and other anaerobes in deep‑seated infections.

• Clindamycin binds to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, inhibiting the translocation step of protein synthesis. This prevents peptide chain elongation, halting bacterial growth and leading to a bacteriostatic effect against susceptible aerobic and anaerobic organisms.

• Liver failure: rare but potentially fatal hepatic injury.
• Neutropenia: marked reduction in neutrophil count.
• Pseudomembranous colitis: toxin‑mediated colonic disease.

Before initiating therapy, clinicians should consider several safety measures.

• Assess renal function: adjust dosing in patients with impaired clearance.
• Monitor hepatic enzymes: watch for signs of liver toxicity during prolonged use.
• Caution in gastrointestinal disease: patients with colitis may be at higher risk for C. difficile infection.
