Klodin (Ticlopidine Hydrochloride)

Klodin (ticlopidine) is used to reduce platelet aggregation in several vascular conditions.

• Prevention of thromboembolic events: lowers the risk of clot formation after cardiac procedures or in high‑risk patients.
• Prevention of stroke in atherosclerotic disease: decreases incidence of ischemic stroke in patients with carotid artery disease.
• Prevention of limb ischemia in peripheral arterial disease: helps maintain blood flow and reduces the chance of critical limb ischemia.

• Ticlopidine is metabolized to an active metabolite that irreversibly binds to the platelet ADP P2Y12 receptor. By blocking this receptor, the drug prevents ADP‑mediated platelet activation and aggregation, thereby inhibiting thrombus formation in the arterial circulation.

Ticlopidine may be associated with a range of adverse reactions, from mild to serious.

Common Side Effects

• Gastrointestinal discomfort: nausea, dyspepsia, or abdominal pain.
• Headache: mild to moderate intensity.
• Dizziness: transient episodes of light‑headedness.
• Rash: mild skin erythema or pruritus.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Neutropenia: severe reduction in white blood cells, increasing infection risk.
