Konakion (Phytomenadione)

Konakion, a vitamin K analogue, acts on the coagulation cascade to restore clotting factor activity.

• Vitamin K deficiency: restores functional clotting factors in patients with deficient vitamin K levels.
• Newborn hemorrhage: prevents and treats bleeding in neonates by providing essential vitamin K.
• Anticoagulant reversal: counteracts the effects of vitamin K antagonist anticoagulants during emergency situations.

• Phytomenadione serves as a cofactor for the gamma‑carboxylation of glutamate residues on clotting factors II, VII, IX and X. This enzymatic modification enables these factors to bind calcium ions, which is essential for the assembly of the prothrombinase complex and the generation of thrombin, thereby restoring normal hemostasis.

Adverse reactions may occur with the use of Konakion and should be monitored.

Common Side Effects

• Injection site pain: mild discomfort at the site of administration.
• Erythema: localized redness around the injection area.
• Nausea: occasional feeling of queasiness after dosing.
• Headache: mild to moderate headache reported by some patients.
